He might be famed for being in the band Coldplay, but Guy Berryman also had a real passion for Alfa Romeo. He owns a 6C and recently completed the Mille Miglia.
Guy Berryman, Bassist for the famed band Coldplay, has a real passion for Alfa Romeos — so much so that he took part in the 2018 Mille Miglia driving one. Partnered with Derik Hill, son of legendary American racing driver Phil Hill, the pair completed the 1000-mile event in a beautiful Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider. The music star also owns a very rare Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Villa d’Este featuring coachwork from the Italian design house Touring.
He hits the nail on the head when saying “Designers had a lot more freedom to express themselves. So when we are looking at classic cars and vintage cars we see lots of different shapes, lots of different styles that I don’t think we see today.”
Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider as its hero car, racing around the test track behind the Alfa Romeo museum in Milan. While based on a 1900, the Sport Spider, and its 2000 Sportiva Coupe sibling, host bespoke Bertone designed lightweight aluminium bodies. With 138bhp and a top speed of around 137mph, this beautiful automotive sculpture isn’t just a pretty face.
Guy Berryman returns to talking about his own Alfa Romeo 6C and remarks why he feels it’s so special. “It’s probably one of the last handmade Alfa Romeo cars. They are incredibly beautiful, elegant, sporting cars. Probably one of the most special cars ever made I think.” His 6C originates from America where it was left in a backyard for over 50 years. Guy bought the car in a sorry state, but has had it restored to its former glory.
